Disaster Preparedness Information for East Pikeland Residents DISASTER PREPAREDNESS INFORMATION FOR RESIDENTS OF EAST PIKELAND TOWNSHIP

Be Prepared BEFORE Disaster Strikes:
Purchase a NOAA Weather Radio. The National Weather Service sends out alerts for severe weather conditions and other emergency information. This is a more sure way to become aware of severe weather before it strikes. For more information, click here.
Have a Disaster Supplies Kit, and a Family Disaster Plan. For more information review one or more of the following resources: American Red Cross, Ready.Gov.
If you or a family member (residing in East Pikeland Township) have a disability and/or no transportation, make sure you complete the "Chester/Limerick Emergency Needs" survey card mailed each year. If you have not received a card, please contact the Township Office at 610-933-1770. This confidential information is used by police, fire, emergency medical, and township personnel during an emergency or disaster.
East Pikeland is located in the 10-mile radius 'Emergency Planning Zone' of a nuclear power plant. Familarize yourself with the special procedures you may be asked to do should an accident occur at the Limerick Generating Station. The Public Information Guide may be viewed or downloaded by clicking here.
Be alert for suspicious activity, report concerns to the appropriate authorities. Be aware of the Homeland Security Advisory System and what it means. Click here for Citizen Guidance on the Homeland Security Advisory System.
DURING a Disaster:
When you hear the Limerick Sirens, tune to Radio Station WCOJ 1420AM for important information from the Emergency Alert System. These sirens can be used for any type of emergency community alerting, and therefore do not automatically indicate an evacuation. These sirens are tested on the first Monday of each month at 2p.m.
If you have an emergency generator, please make sure you use it safely to prevent injury or death. For more information review one or more of the following resources:
State Farm Insurance, American Red Cross, Honda Power Equipment.
There are two creeks that flow through East Pikeland. The Pickering and French creeks are prone to overflowing their banks from extremely heavy rainfall. If on a day of heavy rains, you encounter barricades, cones or caution tape across a roadway, please "turn around don't drown." Do not drive through floodwaters because the water may be deeper than it looks, and the bridge or roadway underneath may be compromised.
