About Us at Brillocatz American Wirehairs
Sharyl PistulkaI fell in love with the American Wirehair breed and wanted to show them. What I loved most was that they are easy to care for, resistant to disease, quiet and loving.

The breed is unique to America, having begun with a spontaneous mutation in a litter of New York farm cats in 1966. This proved to be an uncommon happening and has not been reported occurring in other countries.

What separates the American Wirehair from other shorthair breeds is the coat. Half of the kittens will be wirehaired at birth, which is ideal. The degree of coarseness depends upon the coat texture of the sire and dam. To produce the best wiring, both parents must have a hard coat.

I was fortunate to acquire a wonderful foundation male - GC, RW Henrijean Bullwrinkle of Brillocatz - and an equally wonderful foundation female - CH, RW Klahaun's Briarpatch of Brillocatz as my first two American Wirehairs.  Together they have produced a National winner, two Regional winners and a grand champion, pictured on the right.

Wirehairs were first accepted for CFA registration in 1967 and for championship competition in 1978.
