Yumi And The Web Welcome one and all, and thank you very much for coming to read the unofficial Ronn Owens Fan Website. Ronn knows this website is here, because I asked for his permission to do a fan site, and to complicate things, the site is located on AOL -- so I suppose there won't be too many things here that could be construed as actionable. Nevertheless, I have to state clearly that the opinions here are mine, so if I do say something out of line, don't blame Ronn, blame me, because I'm responsible for the content. I was inspired to put this site up because Ronn's official website has margins that are far too wide for my monitor. I have on occasion viewed the official site with a larger monitor and the latest browser software, and to Gerry Ott's credit, it's a very nice place to visit when the proper equipment and software is available to view it. But, alas, for home use, I'm still relegated to a 640 x 480 monitor, and I figured that there just might be a few others who are in the same boat. In any event, here you are, looking at this page, created from a fan's point of view, about my favorite entertainer ... KGO Radio's Ronn Owens. I hope you'll enjoy your stay. Is This Thing On? I have been listening to the Ronn Owens show since 1978, when I was 13. At the time I first began listening, he was on in the evenings, when the signal skip was powerful enough to come visit me via my clock radio in Yuba City. Among the features of his program at the time were such things as "Rock Trivia", "Status, Class, and Tacky", and "Now, Is That True?" Rock Trivia has a pretty self-explanatory title. At one time, there were Rock Trivia listener gatherings all up and down the west coast, with a particularly strong following in Los Angeles. "Status, Class and Tacky" was fun; its premise was to name any three things in the aforementioned categories. For example, a basic SC&T would be 'foreign automobiles': Status - Porsche, Class - Bentley, Tacky - Karmann Ghia. (or something of this ilk; yer mileage may vary, and I used to own a Karmann Ghia so no letters, please) And when the listener offered a list, Ronn and the listener would discuss the various merits of each choice. Other SC&T categories ranged from 'newspapers' to 'breeds of dog', and when this game aired, it was always a very entertaining listen. But by far my favorite was "Now, Is That True?", the premise of which was that the audience was invited to call Ronn and tell him a tall tale, and Ronn would guess if it were authentic. A participant calling himself Honest Chuck had manage to hoodwink Ronn so frequently that Ronn eventually made him a co-host whenever he did that particular segment. I loved NITT? with a passion, and credit it with being the basis for my current love of urban folklore.

Joke This portion of my Ronn Owens website was removed after I received an email which reads "Jokes about murderers and their victims are NOT funny. They show you to be adolescent and insensitive." My response: Okay. I decided to go ahead and remove the joke. And to the person who emailed -- You're not the boss of me. Neener, neener. I'm rubber, you're glue. What you say bounces off me and sticks to you. And for what it's worth, sweetiedarling, I checked your ISP, so the next time you log on from work and give me grief, I -will- call your office and rat you out for surfing instead of working, you dishonest little snot gourmet. Get a life. Hmph. Adolescent and insensitive, indeed. (G) |
