Hostess: Dorothy Strevel
Assisted By:
Sons: David Strevel of Chapel Hill, North Carolina &
Dennis Strevel of Davison, Michigan
Cousin: Robert R. Strevel of Enfield, Connecticut
All Strevels, Strevells, Strevers
and Streibles in North America are invited. This year, we are holding the Reunion in
Michigan for the first time and extended a special invitation to family members in
Michigan, Ontario, Ohio and the other nearby states within a few hours driving distance.
The events are on a Friday evening and Saturday. Camping is available at Port
Huron KOA, 5111 Lapeer Rd., Kimball, Michigan (810) 987-4070, or the Michigan State Park
at Lakeport. For State Park Reservations, the State has a free reservation and
information number at 1-800-447-2757, and the Lakeport Park is at 1-800-327-6765.
Hotels and motels would be found at Port Huron, Michigan, about 15 miles from Jeddo.
On Friday evening, August 7th, we'll
have a cookout at Dorothy Strevel's home, one mile south of Jeddo at 5:00 p.m.
Within a mile of this home, Mathias and Sarah McNary Strevel settled in 1850. They
brought with them their four sons, Clark, Wesley, Norman and Abbott, and their two
daughters, Phoebe and Betsy. They came from Cramahe Township, Northumberland County,
Ontario. Their sons eventually carved out farms side-by-side along the same Harris
Road as their father.
On Saturday, August 8th, we'll start
with an 11:00 a.m. lunch and get-together at the Grant Township Park picnic pavilion,
about 500 feet south of Dorothy Strevel's house on Wildcat Road. The park is on
farmland donated by Wesley and Dorothy Strevel. Soup, sandwiches and beverages will
be furnished by the local Strevels.
At 1:00 p.m., we will begin a tour
of the farms, the Strevel cemetery between Clark and Wesley's farm, and several other
local cemeteries where Strevels are found. We'll go to the Port Huron riverfront to
see 1000-foot Lakes freighters pass on the St. Claire River, and possibly tour the
historic Coast Guard Lightship Huron, now on display.
At 5:30 p.m., we will gather at the
Dorsey House, on Route 136 about 8 miles northwest of Port Huron. It's the best
restaurant within many miles, rebuilt in 1996. The Dorsey House was a stagecoach
stop from Michigan's earliest days, the first stop out of Port Huron on the 100 mile trip
to Saginaw. We'll buy our own dinners, about $15.00, visit and have the Reunion
business meeting from about 8:00 to 8:30 p.m. |
