Troop #410 - History

Boy Scout Troop #410 was established in 1972, by the 14 Holy Helpers Holy Name Society and has been active in the parish and local community since then. Since, 1972, 38 members of the Troop have achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest honor a Scout can earn as a youth member.

Troop #410 has many activities and events planned for each year, and has been involved in many District events in the area. With more than 28 active youth members and seven active adult members, the Troop is one of the most active in the Greater Niagara Frontier Council.

Troop #410 has participated in almostevery District Camporee, First Aid Rally, and event within the District. Two of our adult Scouters were involved in 1998 with the Council as Philmont Advisors and one of our Scouters is involved with both the National and Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting.

Our Troop offers many opportunities to our Scouts, whether through our monthly camping opportunities, our High Adventure program, our Catholic Scout program, or our Advancement program. Scouts have the opportunity to attend our regular Troop meetings along with opportunities to visit our local police and fire stations, local airport, and many other places of interest.

Our Troop regularly attends Philmont Scout Ranch, in Cimarron, New Mexico, with most adult Scouters having attended at least once, and two having gone three times each.

Three of our Scouts were recently awarded the Catholic Religious Emblem, Ad Altare Dei, with several other members having received religious awards in the past, including most of our adult Scouters and five Scouts in 1998.

Troop #410 organized and carried out the Silver Lakes District Fall Camporee of 1998, which broke Council Camporee attendance records and brought over 40 units together for a very memorable weekend of Scouting. 873 Scouts and Scouters from Western New York participated in this event and had a great time.

In 1999, Troop #410 has plans to visit Cleveland, Ohio for a weeklong adventure visiting several places of interest, including: Cedar Point Amusement Park, Sea World Adventure Park, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, Cleveland MetroParks Zoo, the Great Lakes Science Center, Soak City Water Park, NASA Lewis Space Center and several other area attractions.

With a history like our's, it is a clear fact to say that our troop will be in Scouting for another 25 years, and we will have many more Eagle Scouts to add to our roster of successes.
