Comments about the web site: Hello to all, this is the first time I have visited the site. Here is a brief history of what my father knows. My name is Simon, son of Allan, grandson of John Emerson, Great Grandson of George. (Entry from John Gleghorn 21st May 1999 i believe is my Cousin). My father Allan was the youngest of four Children the other three were Olive, Edna and Donald and they lived in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. My grandfather John was the son of George who lived in Stanhope Street/Road South Shields until his death in 1946. George was married twice which produced three Children in total my grand father John from the first marriage and two children from the second, a son who died young whose name is unknown and a daughter Annie whose married name was Coldbreath. A few years ago my father was informed, by a work colleague, that there was a connection to Easington around mid 1800's. I have only just started looking into my family tree and would be grateful if any one can supply any missing links.

He corrected somethin I'd written--John Storey Cleghorn, my grandfather was son of : William Hemphill Cleghorn, married to Nancy Cantor Storey Cleghorn, not another J.S. Cleghorn. I do know that they are buried in Summerville, Georgia and that there is (or at least was) a John Storey Cleghorn Daughters of the Confederacy (Grandfather Cicero C. Cleghorn was married to Nell Knight and she belongs to that chapter--I have her membership certificate. For an other descendants of John Storey Cleghorn--Dad's brothers, John and Collins, didn't have children but Reese has added to the family tree (not sure why he didn't 'sign in').

I am 45yrs old and my father (John) is alive at 72yrs his father was named Harry,both my elders worked in the coal mines,from this town of Seaham Harbour.My father has told me the story of three brothers who came from Lanarkshire around 1852 + yrs they were looking for work in hard times. One brother settled in Sunderland and he was killed at his place of work. One Brother settled in Seaham to work in the coal mines ( New Seaham Colliery shaft sunk in 1850s) the last brother was said to have gone slightly further South and settled in the mining village called Easington. Comments about the web site: I am JUST ASTONISHED to find so many Cleghorns all over the world, and some very near to where I presently live. I was born in Edimburgh (1946) where my brother Robert Cleghorn currently lives. Family myth tells of up to 12 male Cleghorn children in the 1800's dispossessed of their family farm ('Craigour' now a housing estate) and having to make their way in the world. My great grandfather remaining in the Edinburh area. I would love to find out more.
