am looking for any information about my maiden name Simpson-Cleghorn. I am also
trying to verify a vague story from a grandparent - John Cleghorn that his
grandmother, a romany gypsy, became pregnant with his father, whilst travelling
through a village in Scotland called Cleghorn where she added the name. John

Joseph Cleghorn (RIP)come from Guyana to Panama to work in the Canal Zone in the
1900's and your father come from England to Guyana. He have a brother that
emigrated to New York named Thomas. My father's names is Charles McClaren
Cleghorn Marti and my grandmother (rip) come from Jamaica of an English family.
My father have eigth brothers ((five lives) and alls lives in the Republic of
Panama. I have three brothers: Carlos 56-Luis 53 and Mayra 52.I have 54 years.

heard from my grandfather that his father Joseph Cleghorn was from British
Guyana in South America, and his mother was from Jamaica. They came to Panama
for the construction of the Panama Canal in earlies 1900's. My grandfather John
Rupert Erick Cleghorn passed away almost 15 years ago. We are just one Cleghorn
family in Panama, a very small country in Central America, and eventhough we
don't know each other, if somebody asks us if we are related to someone with
Cleghorn as a last name we alwasy say yes. I lived in Bournemounth, Dorset,
England years ago, and nowadays I'm living in Sacramento, California. We've
always been curious in finding people with the same last name. I think there are
no too many Cleghorns out there !!!

recently visited Scotland and was taken to a small town called Cleghorn which is
near Glasgow, Lanarkshire. I also enquired about a family tartan to be told that
although the name is listed as Scottish it is not attached to a clan. My
father's name was Henry George Cleghorn and his father's name was Richard
Cleghorn (he was born in Australia) and I think his father was born in
Australia, so I am not sure at what stage they arrived here.
