Banana's Like Us
At some point last year, Herman complained that he was getting bored playing with the keys and change and lint in my pocket. He wanted to do more with his life. His mother told him when he was just a little seed that he would be someone, he would go somewhere. Well apparently he figured that meant more then just everywhere I went. I thought about it for a while and wondered what I should give him to keep him occupied. I was perplexed...what could keep a banana happy?
I decided to do what my mother did when I got restless when I was younger...I gave him some paper and a pencil and told him to have fun. I was expecting a pathetic stick figure drawing, with me and him holding hands in the foreground, and some bananas that he didn't like in the background on trees, with mountains and a nice little cabin. Boy was I ever surprised!
I left Herman in my pocket, wondering when he would be done and show me. For three days he was in there, scribbling away, not making a peep. Finally he surfaced with the most amazing thing I have ever seen. He had made a full length illustrated book. He designed, wrote, illustrated and even bound it himself! I was very very impressed and pleased with his work. I was expecting to say to Herman "oh how nice!..what is it...ohh of course its me and you!....its wonderful!" and hang it on the fridge, but man did he show me up!
Here is the cover:

The inside of the book told all about Herman's life, and it was very informative. I learned things about him and bananas that I would have otherwise never known. I can honestly say I am a better lover of Bananas then I ever was or would be without reading the book. I was so moved by this book, that I promised him that one day, we will get it published and teach the whole world about bananas.
