True
frescoes are paintings on freshly prepared lime-based plaster, using powdered pigments
mixed with water. Traditionally they are done directly on walls. I also do them on
wood panels that can be hung or otherwise attached to walls.
My interest in frescoes comes from traveling in Europe, especially in Italy. I have
painted professionally since 1985 and frequently go to
Florence to buy my pigments.
Through my business, BUON FRESCO, I am able to share my knowledge and love for frescoes as
a rediscovered art form.
Highlights
Art has always been a part of my
life and when I first visited Italy I discovered the beauty of frescoes.
I built my home with features
resembling Italian villas and decided to incorporate frescoes throughout
From 1984 through 1990 I studied
art at Southern Methodist University and made four trips to Italy to study the methods of
the great fresco masters.
My work received such a positive
response, that in 1989 I established BUON FRESCO.
I received special recognition in
1990 from Signora Ornella Casazza, Superintendent of Art and Historical Treasures for the
Uffizi Gallery
in Florence, Italy, who authorized me to observe the restoration of the Brancacci Chapel
frescoes.
I combine true fresco technique
with finishing touches done in secco, as did most of the Italian masters.
My frescoes have been featured in
Dallas Life Magazine, a Charity Designer Showhouse and at local galleries and charity
auctions.
Commissions for my frescoes have
been from churches, schools, restaurants and individuals.
I welcome commissions for
original pieces, but prefer to do reproductions of the fresco masters.
