Beaded Medicine Feather's

I find Medicine Feathers to be very special. The very first feather I saw, I realized the extent of how special they are. They have a magic that exists for the beholder.

Although my feathers are not done in the traditional Native American way, if there is a traditional way ... using natural materials,  I have received many compliments for the way each has been finished. The base is made up of vinyl tubing that has been covered with buckskin. The base is completely beaded before the feather is mounted ... I find that I have less tangles this way. The feathers I use, vary from Wild Turkey to Macaw ... from natural feathers to hand painted ones. Most often though, I use the feather(s) of Wild Turkey.  When I find a feather that is unique, I incorporate it into one of my medicine feathers. That is why I am always looking for unique feathers that can be used in my work.

Each feather I do has been stitched in peyote or square.   Most of my inspiration for designs comes from "American Indian Beadwork" by W. Ben Hunt & J.F.:Buck" Burshears.  Small portions of a design are used to create the center of the design used on the feather.

I have lots of feathers I have given to different people...in just about every corner of the country as well as Alaska & Hawaii. Most, I do not have a scanned picture of, because they were given prior to me acquiring a digital camera. The pictures I have put in the gallery's reflect some the feathers I have done.  

I generally do not sell these feathers, but I will more often trade things for them. Each feather is an original.  I do not repeat exact designs and colors.  If someone wants to commision a feather or feather's, I will do that, but you will be charged for my time.

Medicine Feather Completed November 2001 The feather is a hand painted imitation Eagle feather. The design is a off-shoot of the geometric design used on the fan finished in November 2001. Part of the design wraps around the back of the handle.
