Railways & Railway stations

presents some details of the Railways and Railway
Stations which served – and still serve – the Calderdale
district.
The line from Manchester, through the Calder Valley, to Normanton
(near Wakefield), is one of the oldest passenger lines in Britain,
having been approved by Parliament in 1836, and the Halifax &
Calderdale district is well-supported by the railway service.
In 1963, a report entitled The Reshaping of British
Railways, produced by chairman Dr Richard Beeching, signalled
the closure of a quarter of the country's rail lines and 2,128
stations in addition to the scrapping of 67,700 jobs

On 22nd August 1846, the Halifax Guardian published a list of
people who had subscribed large sums to the growing railway system.
