Humility Cooper

BORN: c1619, Holland, daughter of Robert Cooper and possibly Joan Gresham.
BAPTIZED:  At the age of nineteen, 17 March 1638/9, Holy Trinity, London, England
DIED: before 1651, England
MARRIED: unmarried

Humility Cooper was a very young girl, about one year old, and came with Edward Tilley and his wife on the Mayflower. She was called their "cousin". Cousin in those days was a synonym for nephew or neice. This has helped identify her family.

Humility's grandfather was Edmund Cooper, who was baptized on 1 December 1542, in Arlesey, Bedford, England. Edmund's daughter Martha married James Samson, and they had Henry Samson of the Mayflower. Henry was also listed as a "cousin" of Edward Tilley, along with Humility Cooper.

Humility was the daughter of Robert Cooper who was baptized on 24 January 1590/1, Henlow, Bedford, England.  He was a brother of Martha Cooper (mother of Henry Samson of the Mayflower), and Agnes Cooper (wife of Edward Tilly of the Mayflower).

Governor William Bradford in Of Plymouth Plantation, states, "Edward Tilley and his wife both died soon after their arrival, and the girl Humility, their cousin was sent for into England and died there."
