The Courtship of Miles Standish
is a classic poem written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882),
about the courtship of Miles Standish and Priscilla Mullins, and later the
marriage of Priscilla Mullins and John Alden. It should be kept in
mind this is a fictional poem written in 1858, and not an historical
document. The events that form the basis of this poem are, for the
most part, entirely fictional. So enjoy the poem, it's very nice--just
don't write a history paper or start a family tradition from it.
