Thomas English was hired to go as master of the Speedwell, and so Charles Banks, in "Ancestry and Homes of the Pilgrim Fathers" suggests he was probably a resident of Leyden. On 31 May 1613 a Thomas "England" witnessed a marriage in Leyden.
