WOODSWALK RULES
- Read the Target List and assemble your Target Bag at home.
- Read the Scenario. Based on the information provided in it, you will pack a haversack or backpack with items you deem necessary to complete your mission. You will pack it at home and take it to the range with you. (You may substitute modern items which meet the "spirit" of the competition, if you have no period correct items.)
- The WoodsWalk may be shot with any open, iron sighted muzzleloader. NO peep sights or scopes.
- The station packets WILL NOT be opened until you begin the shoot. You will then open each station sequentially, as numbered.
- You will be shooting "from the bag." This means you will only have your gun, your shooting bag and powder horn, and your haversack while shooting. NO range rods or shooting boxes. If it's not on your person, then you cannot use it.
- Once you begin shooting, the match must be completed the same day regardless of weather, gun failure, or other consequences. If you are forced to stop shooting, you must tally your score to that point.
- This is an individual competition. If shooting as a group, each shooter will shoot using his own target bag and set his own targets.
- Each station will give you precise instructions on how the set up the target for that station. It will also tell you WHEN and HOW to load. Do not load your gun until instructed to do so.
- Each station will tell you how to score that station. You can gain plus (+) points, minus (-) points, or zero points.
- If you are told to discard an item, it is lost to you for the rest of the match.
- If you are told to do a "penalty action," that action will remain in effect for the rest of the match, unless instructed otherwise.
- Do not try to read anything in to the instructions. Follow them as written.
- The success of this match depends on your reading comprehension. Read everything twice to make sure you understand exactly what is required.
- You may shoot the match anytime between now and Sept. 30th. You must report your score before Oct. 5th.
- The match is designed to eliminate you from the competition. It seeks to depict the harsh realities of life in the wilderness for a young man with little or no previous experience.
If (Ha !) and when you are eliminated, tally your score up to that point only. You may continue shooting the stations for fun, but they will not count toward your final point total.
