"THE LANTERN AND THE FAN", from the young audiences show, "FOLKTALES OF ASIA AND AFRICA".  Using found object puppetry, all of  the characters in the show are portrayed by kitchen utensils. Pictured here are two sisters, (2 egg beaters dressed in cloth napkins), and the wise man, (4 steak knives).  This show was commissioned by the Center For Puppetry Arts, Museum Series, in 1991, and was written, designed, directed and performed by Jane Catherine Shaw.

To the left, "Statistics Lady", below the "VEDA" in motion. Both are from "NOSTRADAMUS SPEAKS!"  Audiences began their experience by gathering outside at sunset, to watch the VEDA. At the sound of gongs, the VEDA appeared and paraded across a large field, while chanting nonsense and performing unknown chores.   The VEDA then led the audience into the performance space, where they were seated on couches arranged in a large circle.  A circular shadow screen dropped to the audience's feet, revealing a dome shaped cage  Inside the cage, soothsayers, prophets, statistics, physicians and others, were introduced by a Punch like Nostradamus.  Each foretold the future, and threatened to escape.
