CARACOLAS EN ESPAÑOL
La MaMa e.t.c. OPENS ITS 2005-2006 SEASON OCTOBER 13, 2005 TO THE PULSATING BEAT OF THE INTERNATIONALLY ACCLAIMED MARIA ELENA ANAYA DANCE COMPANY DIRECT FROM THEIR TRIUMPHANT TOUR OF MEXICO CITY AND THE YUCATAN PENNISULA.
From the languid rhythms of YoYo Ma to the classical Spanish harmonies of Joaquin Rodrigo to the passionate exuberance of live flamenco, Caracolas de un Mar de Fuego is a dance extravaganza highlighting the indomitable talents of maestra Maria Elena Anaya accompanied by her brilliant troupe of dancers, singers and musicians.
"Entre Reinas y Corales," opens the evening followed by a dance inspired by "Oyeme con los Ojos," a poem by Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz, the great 17th Century Mexican poet. The remainder of the program consists of traditional flamenco accompanied by live music and song, concluding with a "buleria," the company finale, a grand fiesta punctuated with animated music and percussion instruments.
Even as the Queen Conch was used in ancient days to signal momentous events, Caracolas de un Mar de Fuego celebrates passion and enchantment.
