The River City Boppers, Inc., founded in 1989 and incorporated in 1991, is a non-profit organization. The purpose of our club is to preserve and promote the music of the 1950's and early 1960's known as "Rock and Roll" and the dances such as the Bop, Shag and Swing associated with such music . We are members of the National Association of Rhythm & Blues Dee Jay's, Inc. and the National Fastdance Association.
Although our main form of dance is the Bop, we enjoy various styles of fast dancing. Several of our members travel to dance events in other areas, i.e., Nashville, TN, Little Rock, AR, Birmingham, AL, St. Louis, MO, Cincinnati, OH, Jacksonville, FL and Myrtle Beach, SC. We enjoy learning new steps and incorporating them into our style of dance regardless of what style dance it may be. The women in our club love to line dance and are always willing to work with our members and visitors on the line dances they have learned out of town.
Our club meets on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month at the NCO Club, Air National Guard Base, 2815 Democrat Road. We have a pot luck dinner once a month with River City Boppers providing the entree and our members providing the side dishes and desserts.
River City Boppers hosted Boppin' On Beale St.TM, the first National Bop Association's Summer convention in 1992. The NBA chose River City Boppers to host the next four Summer Conventions. In 1997, River city Boppers presented the 6th Annual Boppin' On Beale St. TM, as a REUNION with our fun loving and dancing friends. A National Association voted the event to be the BEST LITTLE PARTY OF 1997. Although we made a decision not to present Boppin On Beale St.TM in 1998, plans are in the making for Boppin' On Beale St.TM 1999.
Our membership fee is $20.00 per year. As a member you will receive a copy of our newsletter, "The River City Rag" every two months and a discounted admission to our regular dances. If you would like to join us, please click on the "Application" link, print, fill out and mail application. |
