This is the page for active military or veterans disgruntled with the ridiculous, outdated and ludicrous law that says we must surrender half of our retirement pay to former spouses.

This law may have been beneficial when first penned, when military wives were not as well-educated and if divorced, were left to work at low-paying jobs and struggle to meet financial obligations for themselves and their children.

But, times have changed!!!

Former spouses now often hold higher educational degrees than their husbands, or former husbands!  And, they often hold higher-paying jobs than their spouses, or former spouses!!  I doubt that this law was ever meant to punish past husbands, but this is what it has become.

It's also high time we took a stand and worked to change this unfair law! It does no good what-so-ever to simply complain about the law, but as Americans we have the right to do something about it!  Write to your elected officials and insist that they look at this law and consider the facts of the Nineties!  It is simply no longer necessary that this law remain on the books!  This law has profound ramifications if you are presently married OR divorced, in the military OR a veteran. . . . And, for God's sake.... VOTE!!

You can take action by requesting that your elected officials co-sponsor

H.R. 72 by Rep. Bob Stump (R-AZ)

The Uniformed Services Former Spouse Equity Act of 1997.

As you may recall, this Bill was introduced in the 105th Congress, but didn't pass.   Rep. Stump has reintroduced the bill.  Many thanks are due Congressman Stump!  Additionally, WISE tells me that the cosponsors are slowly climbing back onboard!  Good news, but it's obvious that we need to write our Congress people and urge them to cosponsor this Bill as well.  (It's always good to be able to add to your letter that "these" Congressmen have taken a stand.)

Congressman Stump's Bill - HR 72

And along those lines, please take a second to write Congresspeople to thank them for their support!

Please click here> carlkr@aol.com if you want to write to me.

I keep receiving mail from folks (for which I truly thank you) asking what they can do to further this cause.  This is great, but read the info above.  WRITE to your representatives!  It will make a difference.
