Lucid Flying

The Flying-to-Lucidity Equation

Comments and dreams support the assertion that flying induces lucidity.

Falling into this colorful, fast-moving dream, I find myself flying through the air. I am about six feet above the ground and can only see ahead of me in that no part of my body is within my view. I immediately know I am dreaming. I am moving through the mall of a shopping center, flying at a fast speed through the mall. Buildings blur by me, and I have a slight feeling that someone is pursuing me. Who, I have no idea.

By far, the most common experience I have while lucid is flying...Six or seven years ago, it often worked the other way around; I often became lucid only after flying - usually away from some pursuers.

I am practicing flying. As I do so, I become aware that I am dreaming. I note the fact that I am flying even though no one is chasing me. I don't have to do my usual methods of flying, running in the air or flapping my arms. I just maintain my balance and mentally execute my movement through the air.

I had a long series of flying dreams in which I was learning how to fly, gaining confidence in my flying abilities. At first, when I became lucid, I would doubt myself, and I inevitably could not maintain the necessary flying attitude. Then, I reassured myself that I could do whatever I wanted, since it was my dream.

For a large portion of the dream, I have a "personal mover" which I ride in and fly around the corridors of the hotel. This device comes and goes without transition (one moment I'm riding around in it and another moment, I'm just walking around the corridors, looking for my room). I am moving around "too well," just going with the flow, so to speak.

I am walking in the corridor and out of the blue, Mother shows up, walks in the corridor from one door and promptly walks to the other side of the corridor and out another door. I say to myself, "Oh, yeah, she always shows up right when I'm supposed to wake up." It is almost a minute before, "...duhh...wake up?...like from a dream?...like...Hey!! I'm dreaming!"
