Dear Cousin,
I now with pleasure, drop you a line to let you know that we have heard from
Aunt Mary Hala yesterday and she is well and her family is well and her children has professed religion and she is rejoicing. She sais that she dose not expect to come up any more. She cannot be reconciled to come since Grandmother's death. Mother went home with Aunt last fall and stade two weeks. You wanted me to to wright the particulars of Grandmother's death. Grandmother died composed though her children did not come to see her, none of them, but Uncle William and Uncle Nat. She lay sick six weeks. She sent for them to come to see her but they would not because she would speak friendly with Uncle William. They will not speak to us because we took care of her. Oh! If I could see you, I could tell you a heap that I cannot wright. Oh I am happy to hear from you. I thought that you had forgotten that you had a relative in existance. I have not heard from you in a great while. Before the last time I heard from you, I heard that you was a going to marry and I want to know if it is so. We heard from Uncle Isham Thompson not long since and he and family is well. I suppose that you have heard that Aunt Amanda is married? She married a man by the name of Hall. He was the cause of Grandmother's troubles and Aunt Emaline and Mr Lowry is parted again. They have been apart for six months. They have divided thare property. They have not bin hear since they stayed hear. Only when Grandmother lay a corps', Aunt Emaline came and stayed about an hour and a half and Mr. Hall would not let Aunt Amanda go to the burying. We have not heard from Charles Copeland for 2 years and it has been almost as long since we have heard from your father. Mr. Copeland has concluded that Charles is dead and Cousin Eliza will not wright to them for fear that they would come for the children. Sister has five children, 2 daughters and three sons. Mr. Blair's health has improved some. You ought to come to this country to see how it is improved. They have built a new church at Double Springs, the finest looking brick church that I have ever seen and at ZionHill, they are abilding a large church. The people of this country have more pride than they used to have. Cousin Tennessee Smith and Cousin Martha have stade with me too weeks each. Sidney John and Tennessee have been going to school at Athens. Tennessee sends her love to you. Brother James and John has bought Mr. Thompson's farm. It is above Zion Hill about a quarter of a mile. I want you to tell Cousin Robert to wright to me and if I can not enjoy his society, I would love to enjoy his correspondence, that we have not forgotten him yet. I want you when Cousin Robert comes home, for him and you to come to see us. Father's family is well, the connection is well, as far as I know this country is quite healthy as much so as I ever knew it. I want you to wright to me whether Texas is a country that has much for it and wright what has become of Cousin Amanda's husband and give me his name. Mr. Blair has been talking about goin to a new country. He does not own any land. His brother has gone to Texas and he sais that if he is pleased with the country he will go. Brother William owns land on Cane Creek about three miles from Father. I have five brothers grown. They are all single yet. I am making preparations to go to school. I have not determined where I will go yet. I hope that you will excuse my bad writing. I will send you a book mark worked with my hair. Give my love to Cousin Mary and children and tell her to wright to me and tell her that I will send her a book mark the next time that I wright and I want you to wright to me as soon as you get this. It is getting late and I must bring my lines to a close. I forgot to tell you that Stark Grills was married. He married the Widow Armstrong's daughter and she died with the consomption about six months after they was married and Willim Grills is married and married his cousin, Plesant Grills daughter. Nothing more at present.Yours with respect,
Since the above has been written we received
Cousin Mary's letter and Brother John and William will anser it in a few days. Your Grandfather Eastis is dead and Louis Riggs. They died last summer.
