THIS PAGE IS DEDICATED TO FERRETS EVERYWHERE, THEY NEED OUR PROTECTION, OUR UNDERSTANDING AND OUR SUPPORT.

FERRETS ARE NEXT AFTER DOGS AND CATS AS AMERICA'S FAVORITE DOMESTIC ANIMALS.
THEY HAVE BEEN DOMESTICATED FOR OVER 2,000 YEARS. FERRETS CANNOT SURVIVE ON THEIR OWN OUTSIDE. MOST FERRETS SOLD IN STORES ARE ALTERED SO THEY CANNOT HAVE BABIES. FERRETS CAN BE VACCINATED AGAINST RABIES AND CANINE DISTEMPER. MANY STATES STILL INSIST UPON EUTHANIZATION WHEN TESTING FOR RABIES, EVEN WHEN FERRETS HAVE HAD RABIES SHOTS. FERRETS CAN EAT HIGH QUALITY CAT FOOD, ARE EASY TO MAINTAIN AND MAKE EXCELLENT PETS. FERRETS CAN BE TRAINED TO DO GREAT TRICKS AND ARE VERY SOCIAL ANIMALS. FERRETS NEED AT LEAST TWO HOURS OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY. FERRETS COME IN DIFFERENT COLORS AND SIZES. THERE ARE FERRET CLUBS AND SHELTERS ACROSS AMERICA. FERRETS ARE GREAT BUDDIES. FERRETS NEED YOU!!!!

I am the proud protector of five fabulous fine and fantastic ferrets: Elmo, Kewpie, Billy Whiteshoes, Slinky, and Chakotay. Three are sables and two are deaf blaze.

My ferrets are great joys and keep me hopping on a daily basis. Although they sleep about 21 hours a day, they play hard the two or three hours that they are up.

Ferret owners have to "ferret proof" their homes as ferrets are very curious. They like to snoop, climb, search, explore, dig, hide, "borrow", chase, dance, chirp, and have a generally good time.

Most ferret owners spoil their ferrets because they are so adorable. Ferrets live between 5-8 years, some living longer.

My ferrets generally get along with my other pets, but I have one who really doesn't like cats. My first ferret, Elmo lost an eye to a cat I used to have so he "hunts" cats.

My daugther's cat Xena loves the ferrets and plays with them when she gets a chance. Our poodle Sherlock never paid much attention to our first two ferrets, but when we got Billy Whiteshoes things changed. Sherlock is over 13 years old and is usually very quiet, but when Billy came home Sherlock started playing with him. They played hide-and-seek under the sofa and "you're it". It was good to see Sherlock act like a puppy again!!!

My ferrets play lots of ferret games, and they try their best to get us to join in. Mine learned how to get into the cupboard and snitch Count Chocula cereal. They really aren't supposed to eat sweets, but an occasional treat shouldn't hurt.

My ferrets like to eat soap, so we have to keep it up. They love to take rubber insoles out of boots and shoes, so we keep those out of reach. They love to play in the tub, especially with a little water in the tub. My female sable, Kewpie loves to bob for grapes! Slinky is another female sable and she loves ripe bananas.

Billy is my luggbutt ferret and his favorite thing is to eat while laying in his food dish.

They are simply adorable. We are in training mode with our ferrets Billy and Chakotay as both are deaf. We are teaching them to come to hand signals. They are easy to frighten, so we are cautious when approaching them.

Many people buy ferrets without getting all the facts, and because of that many end up as unwanted pets. There are shelters all across the U.S. and you can find one near you by browsing this site:

I trust that you have learned something by visiting this site. I want to say thanks to AJ for creating all the great animated ferrets on my page. You can see his animated site at:

Please take time when picking a pet for your child. I don't believe that ferrets are appropriate for small children or very active teens. A ferret can become a sad and unwanted pet very easily or a great deal of fun. Education is what makes the difference.
