About the Instructor
Dr. William Brewer is a Forensic Toxicologist with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division in Columbia, South Carolina. His duties involve the analysis of biological specimens for the presence of drugs and poisons for death investigation. Methods of analysis include GCIMS, HPLC, LCIMS, UV-Vis, TLC, and immunoassay.
Extraction methods include liquid-liquid and liquid-solid phase, manual and robotic.
Dr. Brewer holds degrees of B.S. Chemistry from North Carolina State University (1987) and Ph.D. Physical
Chemistry from the University of South Carolina (1991). He was a Lecturer at the College of Charleston and a
Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Louisville. Dr. Brewer joined SLED in 1992 and also
currently serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor for both the Chemistry Department and the Pharmacy
Department at USC.
To date, Dr. Brewer has either authored or co-authored thirteen publications. He is a member of me American Chemical Society and the Society of Forensic Toxicologists.
