Quotery
...Or poems inspired by humorous quotes.

QUOTERY

These words began as quotes,
that I liked and have set to poetry,
I decided instead of calling them verse,
That I would refer to them all as quotery.

.......Driving' and Drinking..........
Those who drive after drinking,
are a modern day curse,
`cause without even thinking,
they put the quart before the hearse.

..............Secrets..................
It makes perfect sense to me,
What has often been said,
That secrets can, be kept by three,
If two of the three are dead.

..............Divorce...............
He divorced his wife, got her out of his life,
and he wanted to just forget her,
Now he admits, he missed his wife,
But his aim is getting much better.

..........Abstinence............
I have come to the conclusion,
After careful consideration,
That abstinence works best for me,
When practiced in moderation.

..........Child Training......
I stressed this with our children
and they were often told,
To eliminate our mistakes,
and practice birth control.

............Pessimism.............
On the subject of pessimism,
There is only one thing I can say
No sense in being pessimistic,
It wouldn't work out anyway.

..........Optimism..............
I would never have a problem,
In being optimistic,
If it didn't so often interfere,
with being realistic.

.........Smoking..........

When the wife nags me to quit smoking,
I always like to kid her,
"That would violate my principles dear,
Because I am not a quitter!"

..............AOL.............

I longed to surf the internet,
So I hooked my modem to the phone.
Then AOL gave me fifty free hours,
To listen to a damn busy tone.

epilogue

I kept the service anyway
and am still on AOL today,
I'm glad to say that it came to be,
The internet's greatest ISP

...........LIPS THAT PRAY........

The hands that help, I always say,
Are holier that lips that pray.

(Paraphrased from a quote by Robert Ingersoll)

If you enjoyed reading quotery,
I just wanted you to know,
That as more quotes catch my eye,
This poem will grow and grow.

If you have a cute anonymous quote, why don't you send it to me by email
and help this page to grow.
