WILLIAM CRASS was born 1757 in Germany. This William Crass was the father of John Crass who was born 1780 in Virginia and died 1846 in Henry County TN. or Trigg Co. Kentucky. He married CATHERINE NEDDIE ROSS. She was born 1790 in Virginia.
John Crass lived in Calloway County Kentucky 1830 and Henry County Tn. 1840. John may have had a brother Jacob, born 1779, PA. who lived in Roane County TN. 1820-30. One of Jacob’s sons, King Solomon, moved to Mo. and lived near John’s children, Christopher and John. Another brother may have been William, (born,1780-90) who lived in Calloway County, KY. 1840.

104. Bobbie Jean Crass was born December 30, 1930, in the northern part of Roane County, Tennessee near Oliver Springs. Her ancestors had lived in the area for several generations and were among the earliest settlers there. Her father was Elmer Crass and her mother was Lola Davis. She had three brothers and three sisters—Elmer, Jr., Imogene, Betty, Dean, Benny, and Vicki.
Bobbie attended Oliver Springs schools until 1942, when she and her family moved to Harriman, Tennessee. She attended Harriman schools and graduated with the class of 1948. She was perhaps the youngest member of the class and, being a very petite 5 feet tall, was among the smallest in size. Yet she had a forceful personality and wit, so was also among the most popular.
On April 13, 1951, Bobbie married Charles Massey and they lived in Knoxville until he graduated from the University of Tennessee in June. They moved back to Harriman where Bobbie was employed at Empire Millwork Corp. Following his induction into the Air Force, Bobbie lived and worked in Denver, Colorado and Albuquerque, New Mexico, where her first child, Susan, was born on November 2, 1953. At that time, Bobbie abandoned any thoughts of a career of her own and devoted her life to the proper raising of her children.
In May 1954, Bobbie and her infant child flew to France to join Charles who had been transferred to Chateauroux Air Force Base. They lived in the remote village of Jeu Maloches for a year, then returned to Knoxville where Charles entered the UT graduate school when his air force tour was completed. In December 1956, they moved to Chattanooga and on March 6, 1957, Bobbie gave birth to her second child, Carol.
For the next 13 years, Bobbie spent her considerable energy and intellect on raising her children and in managing their home. During this time she was active in the PTA, Christian Women’s Fellowship, and numerous other social, school, and church activities. As her children approached adulthood, she began a career with the Hamilton County Headstart program, working with poverty stricken families in rural areas in the northern part of the county.
By March 1982, each of her two girls had finished college, married, and produced a grandchild. While on a business trip to Washington, D.C., she experienced a distressful stomach ailment. Upon returning to Chattanooga, a medical examination revealed a malignant tumor in her colon. It was immediately removed. The surgery was unnecessarily traumatic and life threatening but she was pronounced free of cancer. This proved not to be the case, however, so over the next 21 months she endured two additional operations and treatment with both chemotherapy and radiation, but nothing could be devised to stop the disease from spreading to her vital organs. She died on December 15, 1983, just 15 days short of her 53rd birthday.
During her illness, Bobbie exhibited a remarkable courage, strength of character, and an unshakable Christian faith. She never complained, never felt sorry for herself, and never gave up hope. And even on her deathbed, she retained the radiance, vitality, and beauty of her youth. She now has five grandchildren who, fortunately, have inherited much of her unquenchable personality and spirit.
