Cupcake Pincushions

Materials
Small amount each of white and a pastel sport weight yarn
(I used Bernet Softee Baby)
Crochet hook size E, or size needed to achieve gauge
Yarn needle
Optional: birthdat candle, colored seed beads
Gauge: Rounds 1-2 = 2
Finished size: About 2 1/2 high
Cupcake "paper"
With pastel yarn, ch 5; join with a sl st to the first ch
Round 1: Ch 3 to count as the first dc, work 14 more dc in the ring; join
with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3. (15 dc)
Round 2: Ch 3 to count as the first dc, dc in the same st as joining, work 2
dc in each remaining dc around; join with a sl st to the top of the beginning
ch 3. (30 dc)
Round 3: Ch 1, inserting hook from back to front to back, sl st around the
post of the same dc, ch 3 to count as the first bpdc, bpdc around the post of
each dc around; join with a front post sl st around the beginning ch 3. (30
bpdc)
Rounds 4-6: Ch 2 to count as the first fpdc, fpdc in each remaining bpdc
around; join with a front post sl st around the beginning ch 2. (30 fpdc)
Round 7: Ch 2 to count as the first fpdc, fpdc in each remaining bpdc
around; join with a sl st in the front loop only of the top of the beginning ch
2. (30 fpdc)
Round 8: Fpsc around the same ch 2, (sl st in the front loop only of the next
st, fpsc around the post of the same st) 29 times; join with a sl st to the sl
st joining on round 7. Fasten off.
Cupcake "icing"
With white, ch 4; join with a sl st to the first ch to form a ring.
Round 1: Ch 1, work 6 sc in the ring; do not join rounds; instead, use a
stitch marker to mark the first stitch of each round. (6 sc)
Round 2: Work 2 sc in each sc around. (12 sc)
Round 3: (Sc in the next sc, 2 sc in the next sc) 6 times. (18 sc)
Round 4: (Sc in each of the next 2 sc, 2 sc in the next sc) 6 times. (24 sc)
Round 5: (Sc in each of the next 3 sc, 2 sc in the next sc) 6 times. (30 sc)
Rounds 6-8: Sc in each sc around. (30 sc)
Round 9: Turn. Sl st in the first sc, dc in the same st, (sl st in the next sc, dc
in the same st) 29 times; join with a sl st to the first sl st. Fasten off leaving
an 18 yarn tail for sewing.
Finishing
Stuff cupcake "paper" with fiberfill. Place "icing" on top of paper and sew
together with yarn end 3/4 of the way around. Stuff "icing" and continue
sewing closed. Add candle sew a few seed bead sprinkles to the "icing", if
desired.
