Living in Clayton...

Clayton Village is situated approximately 3 miles to the West of Bradford in West Yorkshire. Although Clayton is now a suburb of Bradford it still retains its Village feel. The village is pretty much self sufficient in shops and amenities. These include a Supermarket, Butchers, Bakers, Hairdressing Salons, Barbers, Churches, Pubs, a Garage, and a Launderette.

Housing splits roughly into into 4 areas. The oldest part of the Village dating from the 17th century can be found on the north east side of the Village around Town End Road and Town Bottom Farm, and is made up mainly of Weavers cottages.

Much of the shopping in Clayton can be found around Green End including a new supermarket, which is planned for construction on the edge of the Village adjacent to Town End Road.

Back Fold

Victoria Park can be found in the centre of the Village surrounded by slightly newer housing built during the eighteenth and early nineteenth century. Most of this housing consists of rows of back-to-back houses built mainly for the workers at Oak Mills (now demolished). Although these houses are back-to-backs they do offer up to 4 bedroomed accomodation.

Victoria Park

Overlooking the park is the Butchers, the Bakers, The Royal Pub and the Village Hall. The park itself has a Bowling Green and club house as well as a 5-a-side football pitch and a childrens play area.

Also near to the park is the Parish Church of St John the Baptist. A passageway leading alongside the church opens into The Avenue which provides newer and slightly larger 3 and 4 bedroomed semi-detatched housing built in the early part of the 20th century.

The South side of the Village, to the rear of the Village Hall, is the newest section of the village where most of the Village's expansion is taking place. New developments include 3 and 4 bedroomed detached houses in Jacobs Croft, Bramble Croft and adjacent to the Mayfield medical centre on Pasture Lane

The village is at the start of the 636 and 637 bus route which both provide links to Bradford Centre. The M606 motorway is approximately 4 miles away and provides a link to the M62. The nearest railway stations are the Travel Interchange and Forster Square stations
