A while back, I was cruising the Players Helping Players board as I always do, having never been one who ceased his learning experiences, when I came upon a post by Nomad entitled Just Say Yes in OOC folder Players Helping Players. I found it extremely helpful, having tackled an issue that has been debated here before, but with a refreshing twist, making it both helpful, and pleasent to read.
The idea dawned on me that this folder was probably full of other such posts, buried deep within all the others. I had been pondering the Code of Honor, and Code of Conduct, a set of common courtesies compiled by RangerBlue over his time spent here.
With all due respect to RangerBlue, these courtesy codes did not seem embody the ideals I had wanted to express with Darklands, the Storyline Forum I began at the begining of 1998. So I decided to compile a selection of posts from PHP to which I later entitled The Best of PHP for the Darklands website. I began sifting through the 650+ subjects in this folder, searching for those posts that were helpful, declarative, non-inflamatory, and good for general application.
I learned a great deal by doing this, and what I compiled was of great worth. I read many wonderful posts, some having explanations of courtesies offered, some had tips for actual playing, and some analyzed the very nature of roleplaying in the FFGF (which I found most fascinating).
I compiled all the names, and matched them with posts when I sent out requests to reproduce them, anxiously awaiting approval of these writers. As expected some of the names were no longer active, and while not all of the writers have responded with permission, those that have responded have given me permission to post these selections on the site, and in an unexpected turn of events I have recieved very flattering letters from some of RhyDin's finest players. Needless to say I have been catapulted, literally, to cloud nine.
I would like to extend a personal thank you to each and every writer who extended their permission to place their selections on the Darklands website. None of these writers are officially or unofficially affliated with Darklands in any way, shape, or form. All the writers' copyrights will be protected and enforced as part of the permission to reproduce the works. If any selection has been placed on this site without permission of its author, please be assured that it was by human error on my part, and upon being informed of my error, steps will be taken to correct it. All works posted on the website remain copyrighted by the original author, listed on each post after *From:*.
If you would like to submit a selection for publication to me, I would be more than happy to review it, and see if it is appropriate for the Darklands website. Submissions should be limited to those whose contents are helpful in a general way, contain topics not already covered unless expressing an opinion, non-debative to posts currently on the site, are not insulting or debasing to another player or group of players, and do not contain logs of interactions (unless given permission by those within the log).
As a final favor from the readers of PHP, I ask that if the following players are still around, that I be contacted with their current SNs (with permission from the players themselves). Honor and law will not permit me to reprint these wonderful selections without the original author's permission. The names are as follows:
Thank you in advance for any help you might offer. And now I humbly present the Best of Players Helping Players...
