WANTS YOU TO VISIT OUR
CLUB!!!!
The Central New
York Model Railroad Club was formed in 1971 when the 1860's vintage
New York Central Railroad Station was purchased from the
Penn Central railroad. The station is located where the New York
Central's Auburn Branch met the Skaneateles Short Line railroad
in Hartlot. This was also known as the Skaneateles Junction or
Hartlot Station.

The Delaware & Ontario is
the second HO scale model railroad to be constructed by the club.
It reflects the operation of a B-Class railroad running through
the heartland of New York State from Grand Gorge ,on the Delaware
river, north to Wolcott Bay on Lake Ontario. The Different areas of the layout
reflect a range of time from early 20th Century to the present
day. The railroad is operated point-to-point, with 4 mainline
cabs in the center of the 57ft. X 21ft. layout. 90% of all the
track is handlaid, with the other 10% being flextrack that has
been used on some recent scenery work. Centralized Train Control
(CTC) is coordinated from a booth with a control panel that is
built into the old trackside bay window of the station. The CTC controls mainline
operation while each major town and yard has it's own local control
panel. To run the layout to it's full capacity requires 1 dispatcher
in the CTC booth, 4 mainline cab engineers, 4 to 5 yardmasters
to operate the yard panels, and 1 to 2 roving local operators
for local switching moves.
The tracks behind the club are
now active after having been left idle for several years by Conrail.
The tracks were recently purchased by the Finger Lakes Railroad
that is operating out of Geneva, NY and they run several freights
a week past the club to connect with Conrail tracks in Solvay,
NY (just outside of Syracuse). There is a siding at the club where the Finger Lakes
Railroad spots hoppers and boxcars due to a shortage of storage
tracks in Solvay. The locomotives of the Finger Lakes railroad
are painted in the traditional Lightning Stripe scheme of the
New York Central with the only difference being the lettering
for Finger Lakes Railroad instead of New York Central and of course
these locomotives are a little bit more modern than the diesels
of the old NYC.
