COMMON.GEAR's "Current Feature Photo--Part 4"

YET ANOTHER old VW-related feature photo that we'll hopefully change from time to time...

CURRENT FEATURE (A new photo feature uploaded here as of 1/29/2006; another new photo and some related new updates to this page added here as of 1/12/2007):

They Start 'Em Young In Vermont!...

We've known Mr. John Hamill of Westminster, Vermont's well-known independent VW establishment "John's Car Corner" now for many years. We've been to his shop a few times "back in the day," and nowadays enjoy running into him at various VW shows around the Northeast, and also keeping in touch occasionally via e-mails. It can undoubtedly be said that John is a true dyed-in-the-wool VW enthusiast!

As far as we know, John's Car Corner doesn't have it's own web site, though we did find this very nice article about John's business at a Vermont info site: http://www.thisisvermont.com/storycarcorner.html

As per a recent e-mail with great attached images from John, it appears he's "passing along the genes" to new generations! Quoting from his message dated November 27, 2005, John (jandi@sover.net) writes:

"...Hello Steve, enclosed is a photo of our grand-daughter 'Skylar Hamill' age 4 driving her very own Volkswagen convertible. Another DRIVER FOUND! Want to guess what she'll be driving when she gets her license? Best - John (JCC)..."

John Hamill's granddaughter Skylar Hamill, age 4

How cool is that?! Way to go, John--and drive carefully Skylar!

And a Very Cool (in more ways than one!) new VW Transporter for John, as of Fall 2006... (this section added as of 1/12/2007)

We received another e-mail from John (jandi@sover.net) dated 10/4/2006, with a very interesting photo also attached. Here's what John had to say:

"...Chinnin' in the Chilli! (92 Mexican built Transporter)...Hi Steve, just read your article in the Autoist...Your little '60 brings back alot of memories. -John (JCC)..."

Check the photo out BELOW that John attached--is that a radiator grill there on the front?! And the roofline looks updated too. Appears the "John's Car Corner" official logo has also been applied to the side of the van. Nice glasses, John!

And the Autoist that John refers to, by the way, is the official publication of the Volkswagen Club of America, and I contribute an occasional column there called "The Casual Collector."

Thanks again for the check-in, John, and we wish you many happy miles in "The Chilli!"
