| (Back to COMMON.GEAR Main Page) CURRENT FEATURE (A new photo uploaded here as of 12/22/2004) Our long-time good VW friend Greg Mattesen recently had the very pleasant occasion to make contact with the original owner of his beautiful turquoise 1963 VW Beetle, and shared with us the interesting story. The opportunity to work with Greg's fine writing also spurred a search through our own photo-archives for some accompanying images of the car, and as it turned out, we found we had several good ones from over the years that Greg's owned the '63 (a few I took, but most of them taken by Greg). We're happy to highlight the collaboration of words and images on the history of Greg's '63 at the recently-created "Greg Mattesen's Interesting Story About Tracking Down The Original Owner Of His 1963 VW Beetle" page (a joint Common Gear and Shoreline Antique Auto Connection feature), which we just finished up a couple of days ago--please visit the dedicated page at: http://members.aol.com/cgextras/GregMattesen63VWHistory.html. As it turns out, a couple more interesting images of Greg's '63 VW were located AFTER that feature page was completed, but still wanting to showcase them a bit, a new update to a C/G Photo Feature page seemed in order, and so here we are... BELOW: The package of photos in which these two images were found was labeled "Mattesen NHVWC '97," and included these and several photos from the New Hampshire VW Club's June, 1997 car show. Greg made sure to stop off at a couple of interesting locations along the way to the New Hampshire show, such as the one below. Greg's notes from the back of this photo read: "'63 VW at Moran Square Diner, Fitchburg, MA, 6/29/97." Here are a couple of links about this historic diner that we found via a google search: http://www.dinercity.com/dinerTour/moranSquare.html and http://www.ronsaari.com/stockImages/diners/moranSquareExt.php. Greg's '63 is no stranger to historic diner locations--please see also this page: http://members.aol.com/cgearannex/GMattesenMiddletownDiner.html.
BELOW: And speaking of New Hampshire, what better way to commemorate a trip to The Granite State than a photo-op next to the "Welcome" sign! Greg's notes on the back of this original photo read: "'63 VW on the way to the NHVWC Show, 6/29/97." Another great shot, Greg--thanks again for sharing your old VW fun!
