Fluorite crystal (1983 photo) in dolostone from the Dolomite Products quarry in Penfield, NY.  It took several hours of work to free this beauty intact from the surrounding boulder.
Roadcut near Wilberforce, Ontario.(1984) This marble contains large crystals of the amphibole fluorichterite.
Wollastonite mine at Lake Bonaparte, NY.  (1995) This pit is a recent source of attractive, hematite included quartz.

Mt. St. Hilaire, Quebec. The quarry here is a source of an astonishing variety of minerals.

The rock sample illustrated here is a piece of a peridotite dike rock from a limestone quarry in upstate NY. The igneous dike incorporated fragments of carbonate rock as it moved toward the surface, recrystalizing massive calcite in a rind around the fragments. In this image, you can almost see the small purple amethyst crystals embedded in the calcite.

Erv Brown examining a spinel and chrondrodite bearing outcrop near Oxbow, NY (1990). Purple spinel crystals were found here up to two centimeters across.
