"Karrico"

This three year old gray gelding was bought by outbidding the killer buyer at a local auction. He was severely underweight and needed immediate farrier attention. Little Karrico was adopted by someone here in Louisville, and today looks like a totally different horse! He has gained his needed weight, had several farrier visits to correct his overgrown hooves, and has greatly benefited from regular visits to the equine chiropractor for adjustment. He is safe and happy in a new home, far from the slaughterhouse! UPDATE 9/99 - Karrico has been placed in a great home in Indiana, at WindWolf Farm.  He is doing great!

"Mussanah"

Musannah was found at a local auction. Her lifesaver that night was an arabian freezemark. After bringing her home, and doing a large amount of research on the mark (as it was NOT an American freeze mark), she was identified as Musannah. She was imported from Austria in 1985 and purchased for $45,000. She has an outstanding pedigree, straight egyptian lineage. She was used as a broodmare on a farm in Tennessee for a while. She is now twenty years old, and the owner of the farm had given her to a farmer and his children, with strict instructions to give her back if they no longer wanted her. Instructions disregarded, this farmer sold the mare to a dealer near him, and she was promptly brought to the Shepherdsville, Kentucky auction. The original owner's were relieved to hear she was safe from harm. "Anna" has found a lifetime home in Indiana, where she will retire with the dignity she deserves! 5/25/99 - Musannah has been vet-checked and found to be in astounding condition for a mare her age.  She has been turned out with a lovely SE stallion, so hopefully we'll be posting a pic next spring of her new foal.

"Phoenix"

Phoenix is an 18 month old chestnut arab colt that was bought straight out of the killer's feedlot. We weren't able to pull him from the auction the night before, but a generous donation was made the next day to save his life. Phoenix has been adopted to Jill in North Carolina.  He has settled in great, and is quickly becoming a real character!  He is there with his pasture-mate, Scout.  9/99 - I had a chance to visit Phoenix this month, he doesn't even look like the same horse.  He has grown, and his personality has really blossomed.  Here is Phoenix in his happy new home. :o)

"Scout"

Scout is a 3 year old bay arab/part arab gelding. Untrusting and a bit timid when he got to KARE, he quickly overcame his fears, and turned out to have a heck of a lot of personality! He has joined his pasture-mate Phoenix with Jill in North Carolina.  Jill has already been on his back a few times, and he is developing very nicely.  9/99 - I visisted Scout in his new home.  He looks absolutely fantastic, but the most amazing thing is that he is no longer the timid, shy horse that left here.  He was at the fence begging to be petted!!

Scout in his new home, looking great!!!

Marseynins Spirit

Spirit is a 6 year old PB arabian mare.  She was found with her mother, 17 year old THR Gali-Fire on their way to slaughter.  Fire was rescued by the rescue group ARABS, and Spirit came to KARE.  After contacting the original owner/breeder, we found that papers are available on both mares.  She has found a new home and a new name.  "Mariah" is now with Rebecca in Illinois. Rebecca is also adopting Jimmie Jo, the gorgeous chestnut gelding. 9/99 - "Mariah" has been re-adopted into a home in North Carolina with Patricia Brown.  Mariah is doing great.  Pat has  even ridden her on trails and her training is coming along great.

"Ghost"

Ghost is a 7 year old rose grey gelding.  He was saved from the killer buyer at the local auction.  He has found a new home with Nellie Allseitz, and arrived at her farm on April 10th. UPDATE:  11/13/99 - Ghost has been re-adopted by Linda Barry of Shelton, CT.  1/5/00 - Ghost is doing excellent in his new home.  Linda has been working him and he will soon be ready his first ride in his new home.  UPDATE:  Ghost is doing well under saddle, and is the stable favorite!  :o)

"Shala"

Shala was bought directly from the kill pen at the auction.  She is an exquisite 8 year old bay arab mare.  She has found her perfect match with James and Michaele Babcock of Virginia.  Shala was delivered to her new home on May 22nd.  6/4/99 - Shala is doing great, and her new owners have plenty of patience and love to help her overcome her fears and learn to trust.  To the left is a pic of Shala in her new home. :o) She will soon be undergoing training, and hopefully we'll soon have tales of riding!

"Cajun"

Cajun is a yearling 1/2 arab/1/2 quarterhorse buckskin.  He was gelded here at KARE, and now has been adopted by Stephanie Welch in South Carolina.  Below is an update pic, he looks so great since being clipped of that winter coat.  He is coming along nicely and has personality plus!  9/99 - I visited Cajun and couldn't believe how wonderful he is turning out.  He is incredibly calm and gentle, and he looks great!

Jimmie Jo AHR#375989

Jimmie Jo is a 13 year old, 15 hh registered chestnut gelding.  He is a powerful mover with an awesome build.  He is joining another rescue, Marseynins Spirit (a.k.a Mariah :o) in Illinois with Rebecca Tudor.  1/5/00 - Jimmie Jo is doing fabulous in his new home with Rebecca.  He has turned out to be quite a trail horse!  Below is Jimmie in his new home.

Mercury is a yearling gelding PB arab saved at auction from a killer dealer.  He has been adopted by Judy Blackwelder of Virginia.  He arrived at his new home on June 3rd, and settled right in.

"Zack"

Zack is a 15 year old chestnut arabian gelding.  He was saved from the auction and adopted by a local Louisville couple, Darlene and Bill Holzbach.  Zack  has joined their herd and fit right in.  He and Darlene have been enjoying rides together. :o)  UPDATE:  Zack has proven to be a great horse for even novice riders, and now has a brand new niece to play with, Jazz.  :o)

"Dallas"

SS Power Play AHR registered

Dallas is a 10 year old chestnut arab gelding.  He is a powerful built boy with lots of personality.  He will be rejoining an old friend, a previous owner from long ago. UPDATE:   Dallas is up for re-adoption, please email KARErescue@aol.com for more info, or check the main website.  UPDATE:  Dallas has been adopted by Darcy Holman, she has already ridden him and he is doing wonderfully!!
