Corriganville Park Status
Since the time of Master Plan approval (see Corriganville
Park History ), the following major events have occurred related to
the project:
-
Clark and Green Associates of Irvine were selected to develop the Phase
I Construction plans for the site. This work is proceeding in conjunction
with several other activities which have affected the planning process.
-
Annexation to the City of Simi Valley has been completed to allow for the
development review process to occur within the City rather than the County.
-
A Planned Development Permit has been filed with the City. Various studies
were required before the application could be deemed complete; these studies
include Soil Test, Hydrology Study, Tree Study, Archaeological Study, Traffic
Study, and Street Alignment Study.
-
During the above process, the Southern Pacific right-of-way addition (11
acres) was negotiated and acquired thru a grant funded by the Mountains
Recreation and Conservation Authority and the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy.
-
Negotiations were completed to acquire the 2.7-acre Krebs property based
on an offer to purchase made by the owner.
-
Because of the acquisitions of these two properties, it was determined
to back up and re-study parking and street access for the park. This study
has been completed and a proposal to re-design the project area impacted
has been received.
-
Rancho Simi Open Space Conservation Agency (RSOSCA) board members met on
November 20, 1996 to discuss funding needed to open Corriganville Park
on a limited basis in Summer 1997.
-
RSOSCA designated a sub-committee to search for grant funds to begin Phase
I.
-
Phase I construction projects include grading and fencing the land, installing
utilities, restoring the lake, building the caretaker's quarters and maintenance
area, constructing an amphitheater and Visitor Center. These projects are
necessary for opening the park to the public.
Much has been accomplished, much remains to be done. Strong
support and assistance will be needed to accomplish the goal of recreating
the history of Corriganville.
