We are a network of independent psychotherapists who are concerned about the effects of managed care policies on the delivery of mental health services. Our primary concerns are that managed care compromises client confidentiality, creates inherent conflicts of interest between clients and therapists, limits our ability to act as advocates for our clients, and makes it difficult to tailor therapeutic strategies to the individual’s unique circumstances. We want to offer consumers information about our concerns--information that is often not disclosed by insurance companies. We also want to explain our alternative to the managed care system, and why we believe it better serves the interests of the client. We strongly believe that consumers have a right to all the information about their health care, and that informed consumers can then make intelligent choices about what is best for them: the best therapist, the most appropriate goals, and the type and duration of treatment
Our Directory provides useful information for those considering seeking therapy, including information about different types of therapy, different types of practitioners and an overview of the issues you might wish to consider in choosing whether or not to use your Managed Care insurance to pay for therapy. You can get a copy of our directory either through the mail, by FTPing the Directory directly from this web site as a Word for Windows document or by reading the directory online. You can also search our member directory to find a Guild therapist in your area.
