USS Enjolras Departments

Counselling

The counsellor aboard the Enjolras is responsible for maintaining the mental health of the crew. Generally, the counsellor is an individual who is telepathic or empathic, and always someone well-versed in the psychology of many different races. In addition, the counsellor will often advise the captain, especially in diplomatic situations.

Engineering

The Engineering department is responsible for ensuring all systems aboard the Enjolras are at top efficiency at all times and making necessary repairs to the ship. Main Engineering co-ordinates power distribution and also allows direct access to the warp core. Warp and impulse drive systems can be directly controlled from there, as well. The bridge contains an engineering station that allows an engineer to be present on the bridge while being able to monitor and adjust engineering systems.

Helm

The main responsibility of the helm is to pilot the Enjolras. Even though much of it is automated, an officer is still required to monitor the course and make necessary adjustments, manually fly the ship during certain situations such as red alert, keep the captain and bridge crew informed of position and distance, and input course changes when ordered to do so by the captain or first officer.

Medical

Medical's responsibility is to keep the crew in top health, as well as to provide medical assistance during missions. The Enjolras's sickbay consists of a wide range of facilities for medical care, including intensive care, surgery, laboratories, a nursery, dental care, and physical therapy. In addition, Sickbay is equipped with an emergency holographic medical program capable of functioning as Chief Medical Officer in the event other medical personnel are unavailable.

Operations

The Operations, or Ops, manager's main duty is to co-ordinate power systems to ensure top efficiency. Often, though, several departments will request use of the same resources at the same time, and so the Ops manger will have to determine how these resources will be distributed. During crises, Ops works closely with Engineering and Tactical to keep propulsion and defensive systems functioning. Ops also provides information to away teams such as resources and objectives and then co-ordinating the mission. Life support maintenance also falls under ops, as well.

Science

The Science department co-ordinates all data-gathering on the Enjolras, both from the external sensors and the many science laboratories throughout the ship. Two science stations are located on the bridge, allowing two science officers to work together. Science also is responsible for reconfiguring sensors depending on mission profiles, as well as operating them during the mission.

Security

Security's main responsibilities are crew safety, security for visitors such as ambassadors and heads of state, and maintaining intruder control and precautions against sabotage. Generally, one or more security officers will accompany an away team to provide safety for it.

Tactical

Tactical manages the Enjolras's defensive systems, including shields, phasers, and photon torpedoes. During crisis situations, the Tactical officer is responsible for operating these systems, often under strenuous circumstances. Tactical, Engineering, and Ops often work together to provide maximum efficiency and manoeuvring during crises. While the Tactical station is capable of accommodating two officers, it has been found that one officer can more effectively make Tactical decisions. At times, though, an assistant tactical officer is necessary and can easily be assigned.
