"A la volonté du peuple / et à la santé du progrès"

Welcome aboard the USS Enjolras NCC-24608! The Enjolras, a Hugo-class science vessel, was designed to expand the reaches of both the Federation's exploration and knowledge. Her current captain is Lera Éponine Lana t'Resan, the first Rihannsu captain in Starfleet, and who has previously served on the USS Valjean, the USS Enterprise, and the USS Farragut, and her first officer is Cmdr. Mulder, one of Starfleet's best officers and who strongly believes in the principles behind the Federation.

The Hugo class was designed about a decade before the Galaxy-class starships and is very similar in design. Basically, Starfleet wanted to have a smaller version of the Galaxy class before proceeding with the larger design, and realised the potential of the Hugo class as a science vessel which was, at the time, better designed for long-range exploration than even the Ambassador class. Equipped with facilities and equipment comparable to the Galaxy class, but more compact, the Hugo class has proved itself to be a valuable component of Starfleet's mission "to boldly go where no one has gone before."

The class was named for the 19th-century author Victor Hugo, who lived in the country of France on Terra, and wrote such classic works as Notre-Dame de Paris and Les Misérables. He is often considered to be to French what William Shakespeare was to English, its greatest poet and writer.

The Enjolras itself is named for the leader of the students during the Student's Revolt of 1832 in France depicted in Les Misérables. His beliefs in "Liberté, egalité, fraternité" embody many of the principles behind the Federation. The sacrifices he made are, perhaps, the same ones Starfleet officers must be prepared to make for the defence of the Federation and everything it stands for. "Let others rise to take our place until the Earth is free," he said right before his death on the barricades during that revolt. He strongly believed that people should be free - and was willing to do whatever was necessary to gain and hold that freedom.

To become a crew member of the Enjolras, fill out the application and submit it. It is also recommended, although not required, that you write a bio (biography) of your character. This can be as long or as short as you wish, but should at least contain your character's name, age, race, gender, etc. See the beginning section of Lera's bio for an example. Once that is done, simply show up at the next sim.

The Enjolras is in #trek_continuum on irc.another.net on IRC every Tuesday at 8:00pm ET. When you first come aboard, the captain will assign you a position. She will try to give you the position you request, but if it is already occupied, you may choose to serve as an assistant in that department, or you may choose another position in a different department. See the department descriptions for more information on each position.

Each week, the mission contains various puzzles and mysteries that must be solved, similar in style to many of the USS Enterprise-D's missions. Afterwards, the crew can go to Ten-Forward and relax with the other members of the crew. Also, logs are expected to be written after every mission. This is a great way to allow the other simmers to know more about your character and helps you play your character even better.
