Scarboro' MEGenWeb Project
Welcome to Scarborough
Cumberland County ME GenWeb Project
Originally a random collection of colonial settlements dating from the early 1600's in what the
Indians called Owascoag, or "place of much grass". Scarborough formally became a town in
1658 and comprised the settlements at Black Point (Prouts Neck today), Blue Point, Dunstan, and
trading posts on what is now Stratton and Bluff Island. The town extended eight miles inland
from the coast and was a part of the Massachusetts Bay Colony.
