What are the hours of curfew in the Village of Crete? By Village ordinance, the hours of curfew for persons less than 13 years of age are between 9:00 P.M. and 6:00 A.M the following day, on any day of the week. For persons at least 13 years of age, but less than 18 years of age, curfew hours are between 11:00 P.M. on Sunday through Thursday, inclusive, and 6:00 A.M. the following day, and between the hours of 12:01 A.M. and 6:00 A.M. on Saturday and Sunday. It is unlawful for a parent, legal guardian or other person to knowingly permit a person in their custody or control to violate the provisions of Crete's curfew laws.


Can the police open my car if I have locked my keys inside?
The Department currently supplies its officers with tools to assist in opening locked vehicles which contain children, disabled persons or pets. Persons who have locked keys within an unoccupied vehicle should contact an area locksmith.


How do I get a copy of a police report? Copies of police reports may be picked up at the Crete Police Department. The records clerk is available at the Department between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday (excluding holidays). A $5.00 fee is applicable.


Where do I go to pay my parking ticket? The office of the Village Clerk is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday (excluding holidays), and is located within the Village Hall, located at 524 W. Exchange Street. Parking citations may be paid for there, prior to the expiration of the tickets due date.


Can I make a police report over the telephone? Yes, in some instances reports may be taken over the phone, though the majority of reports will require a police officer to come to your residence. You can contact the Police Department by calling (708) 672-0911.


My friend or a relative is overdue returning home. Can I find out if they were in an accident? The dispatch center may not have the names of persons involved in motor vehicle accidents at the time of your call. However, if a person has been injured and is unable to call themselves, the department will notify their family.


We have a problem with speeders in our neighborhood. What can we do? Call the Police Department at (708) 672-0911 and request that this area be placed on selective traffic enforcement.


How do I apply for a position on the Crete Police Department? Once you have come to the realization that you'll never get rich in this line of work, and still wish to apply, applications may be picked up at the Crete Police Department, located at 1370 Benton Street. Testing announcements are published in area newspapers and will list candidate requirements.


Why did it take so long for the police to come when I called them? All requests for police services are assigned to priority based on the seriousness of the incident and the potential for injury or damage to property. At times, calls of less urgent nature may be delayed so that we can respond immediately to emergencies.


Someone has abandoned a junk car on my property. Can the police tow it away for me? The police department can only have vehicles towed that are on public property. Call a wrecker service in your area and the vehicle may be towed away at the owners expense.


Am I required to purchase a vehicle sticker for my car? No. In 2005, the Village of Crete discontinued the requirement for residents to purchase vehicle stickers annually.
