Puff Stitch Coaster or CD Coaster

Difficulty level: ***(average)

Materials: About 1 ounce of worsted weight cotton, crochet hook size G (4.00 mm) or size needed to achieve gauge

Gauge: Rounds 1-3 = about 2 1/4" diameter

Finished size: About 5" diameter

To make a puff st: (Yo, insert hook in indicated st and pull up a loop) 4 times, yo and pull through all 9 remaining loops on hook, ch 1 to lock

Pattern note: When working in a "ch-1 sp" on rounds 3 and 5, work into the ch 1 used to lock the puff st

Ch 5; join with a sl st in the first ch to form a ring

Round 1: Ch 1, work 10 hdc in the ring; join with a sl st in the first hdc. (10 hdc)

Round 2: Ch 1, puff st in the same st as joining, puff st in each remaining hdc around; join with a sl st in the first puff st. (10 puff sts)

Round 3: Ch 1, sc in the same st as joining, ch 1, sc in the next ch-1 sp, ch 1, (sc in the next puff st, ch 1, sc in the next ch-1 sp) 9 times; join with a sl st in the first sc. (20 ch-1 sps)

Round 4: Sl st in the next ch-1 sp, ch 1, puff st in the same sp, puff st in each remaining ch-1 sp around; join with a sl st in the first puff st. (20 puff sts)

Round 5: (Sc in the next ch-1 sp, ch 2) around; join with a sl st in the first sc. (20 ch-2 sps)

Round 6: (Sl st in the next ch-2 sp, ch 3, puff st in the same ch-2 sp) around; join with a sl st in the first sl st. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

To make a CD Coaster: Make 2 of the coasters. With wrong sides together, join yarn with a sc through both thicknessess of any ch-3 on round 6, (ch 2, sc through both thicknesses of the next ch-3) 12 times; insert CD, (ch 2, sc through both thicknesses of the next ch-3) 7 times, ch 2; join with a sl st in the first sc. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
