The Trail Animal Running Club (TARC) consists of about 60 members, men and women, who enjoy and participate in the sport of ultrarunning and trail runs. Members are from all over the United States with a concentration of runners in New England, Upstate New York and Canada.

Many members get together on weekends to run trails on the weekend and compete and/or organize trail running events. Frequented trails in the Boston area include Weston, Ma. (from the Campion Center), the Blue Hills of Milton, Middlesex Fells in the Northern suburbs and the Andover area along the Merrimack River.

In 1997, TARC sponsered it's first ultra event in April. "Don't Run Boston 50K" was held in the Blue Hills, led by race director, Howie Brienan. Our club president and founder is Chris Haley who lives in the beautiful town of Medfield, Ma.

Thanks to the Western States 100 Endurance Run based in Auburn, Ca. and the Vermont 100 in Woodstock, Vt. numerous members of TARC have had the pleasure of meeting, pacing or being paced by members of the Buffalo Chips Running Club from Sacramento, Ca. and Sierra Express Ultrarunning Club based in Auburn, Ca. A warm friendship has developed between the two clubs. So the Chips are kind of TARC's "soulmate" on the West Coast.
