| New Marlborough is a rural township
in the south west corner of Massachusetts. Located in the Berkshire Mountains,
the town encompasses just under 50 square miles and 100 miles of roads.
The population is about 1100 voters with major increases during summer
vacations, ski and deer hunting seasons.
Our town may be spared the insults of crime plaguing larger communities, but is not immune to it. Major motor vehicle accidents, thefts, narcotics, and domestic violence, & the bizarre impact our town yearly. At this time the department is reduced to one person. It functions as an “on call” service. There is a mandate to respond to every radio page within one minute and the “on scene” time averages 6 minutes. Activity is approaching 2000 hours per year. The Department does not exist in a vacuum. Strong and positive relations exist with surrounding Police Departments and State Police. The cooperation of local Fire, Ambulance, Highway departments is one of our greatest assets. Dispatch and communications are provided at the local and county levels. |
