Honduras Update from Dave

Dave and Marty and the entire Hearth to Honduras group is working hard.  Keep them in your thoughts and prayers!  Dave writes:

Dr. Bob Graor is currently putting together a heart surgery team and will try to come down later this summer (possibly with Dr. Lilly). The hospital thing is continuing to grow and shows no signs of slowing down. I got a piece of the ribbon used in the ribbon cutting ceremony for the hospital dedication in San Pedro (cut by the defense minister). After the fire, the hospital administrator petitioned the Minister of Security and we may be getting a police station in Canchias!!! (Turns out the administrator is the Security minister's son in law). Dr. Graor is shipping supplies stored from a hospital in Dayton to equip the hospital in San Pedro. We need more supplies and equipment. To ship for free using the US Air Force, we have to send between 10,000 and 100,000 lbs of material. We also need LOTS of money. The expansion of our "practice" out of Canchias into the military hospital system (we have been asked to help the hospital in Tegucigalpa as well) has expanded our potential patient base from about 15,000 to 1.6 million people. EVERY public hospital in the country is out of money and out of drugs for the YEAR (according to the papers)! When word gets out that two military hospitals are well stocked and open to the public, the run by patients will be tremendous. This is God-Sized opportunity at it finest! We are a clinic in the middle of no where and we have the opportunity to affect medical care for an extremely large percentage of the population. Hang on boys and girls, this ride is gonna get WILD!!!!!!!

Satan is attacking us as our influence and ability to spread the gospel to others increases. The fire came at no accidental time. I am convinced Satan is feeling the pressure, as we work for Christ, and incites his servants against us (if you don't serve Christ, you serve Satan, it's that simple). Other things have happened and other things will happen. A faculty member in UK dental school who was planning on bringing a team of dental students suddenly died of a heart attack a couple of weeks ago. It may not be a result of his faithfulness and desire to work here (or it may), but it is certainly is used by Satan as a discouragement. The good news, however, is that we are on the winning side and we only have to continue and finish the race according to God's rules.

Keep praying for us, we need it....  Dave

March 23rd Party Update

The March 23rd party at the Heart to Honduras headquarters promises to be a great time of fellowship, fun, and other things (hammering, sweating, sweeping....)!  Bring yourself, your friends, family, anyone and everyone!  Here is a list of people who are coming:

Clint
Sarah
Missy
Jeff and Leslie Hatton
Mike Buchanan
Rob
Mark (will arrive around 1-1:30)
Steve
Mike Webster is a question mark (about coming to the party I mean)

We'll get the exact time of the party as soon as it is available, and post a map and directions also.  Find out more details about the new Heart to Honduras facility here.  Contact Clint at clint@petracapitalgroup.com to let him know you are planning to attend.

Update on the Heart to Honduras Fire

The immediate needs of the students have thankfully been met, and now the construction of a new facility inside the compound is being considered.  Until a new dorm is built, the students are staying in the Barnabas House on the hill above the Discipleship Center.  Also, the Missions Team at Salem is investigating donating the funds to build a duplex-style house for visiting families to stay while in Honduras.  The building may cost around $15,000, will possibly be equipped with a kitchenette, and it is hoped to be built in time for Mike and Holly B. when they visit this summer to work on the fish ponds.  While it remains to be seen whether the funds are available and can be used for this, your prayers are needed, and we'll post more as it becomes available.  See the original story here.

Party at Heart to Honduras Headquarters

Clint, the lovable fellow who did a fantastic imitation of a horse thanks to his girlfriend, wrote to tell us that on Saturday, March 23rd the group is invited to the Heart to Honduras headquarters to help out on renovations.  I only pray it's not another deck!  Anyway, please plan on attending, and we'll post details as they become available.  Perhaps we can meet at Salem or Centerville and drive together, provided Missy is not allowed to drive.

Clint writes:  "We thought it would be neat if we could get as many people from our group out there as possible.  Also, feel free to invite anyone else you think may be interested.  This would be a good opportunity to show others what it's like to go on a mission's trip and work together.  Please let me know ASAP if you're planning on being there.  If we don't get enough from our group, then I'll have to recruit elsewhere (I'd hate to replace one of you, but don't try me!!).  I'll touch base with everyone once I get responses to let them know what time the helicopter will be lifting off on the 23rd!!"

Don't make Clint replace us!  We are impossible to replace!  Okay, you might do it with three cats and a roll of tape, but still!  You can contact Clint at clint@petracapitalgroup.com

Outreach Planned for HondurasWeb

While we hope HondurasWeb is entertaining and informative (I'm not allowed to hope it will be profitable am I?), we also hope it will be a positive factor in reaching out to those interested in missions.  Towards that end, we invite all those who have traveled with Heart to Honduras or another group to submit any information you feel would be of interest to other readers.

Testimonies, stories, and yes even more telapia recipes would be greatly appreciated.  We plan to host a forum on this site where people can discuss Honduras with others.  And ultimately we hope that to the glory of God this site might help some realize the call to missions.  So please, make this your site, and God bless you all!

Heart to Honduras Facility Damaged by Fire

The boy's dorm, located above the soccer field outside the Heart to Honduras compound, was destroyed in a fire Saturday, March 2nd.  While details are still coming in, apparently a local man (or group) set the dorm on fire after being upset with Heart to Honduras' collaboration with the military.  The man had been arrested by the military several days earlier, and apparently blamed Heart to Honduras for bringing the military.

The man placed a 'Molotov cocktail' in the dorm, which was destroyed along with most of the student's possessions.  The students had just left on a trip, and thankfully no one was injured, but only have the possessions they carried with them.

While there was one eye witness, Heart to Honduras will have to pay to have the Honduran equivalent to the FBI investigate the matter.  Pastor Jackson will inform us on our response to this incident, who will know more after meeting with Pastor Gordon on Thursday.  An individual from a group just returning from Honduras has pledged fifty dollars per student, thirteen students in all.

We ask for prayers for the students and teachers at Heart to Honduras, and for the safety of all.  While this could be a discouragement for the students, pray that God will use this in their lives in a positive and glorifying manner.  It is also important to include the man or group who started the fire in our prayers.  While we can desire that justice be sought, we should also desire that whatever hatred that might have been in his heart to cause this will be transformed, that through this a true servant of Christ may be found.

Success of the Military Collaboration

As you know, Heart to Honduras has created a partnership with the Honduran military, which has been a real blessing for all involved.  Dave Sperow recently wrote that Heart to Honduras is assisting the military with medical teams to work in a hospital in San Pedro Sula.  The hospital is completed, but has NO supplies!  The building is brand new and has ten doctors but the budget did not include supplies or equipment.

The military would like medical teams to travel with them to rural areas to work on medical brigades.  Dave writes that "they are even proposing helicopter insertion to villages too remote to reach by truck for medical teams.  Every commanding officer is a Christian and is intent on spreading the gospel using the army to do it.  Whoda thunk it?  God is really at work and he provided a place for you to send an MRI if the mood strikes you!!!! ;)"  Speaking of which, if anyone has a spare MRI system laying around, please let me know....

David is also meeting with the Defense Minister of Honduras regarding the dedication of the military hospital that they are equipping.  "Keep us in your prayers as this partnership is getting better and better all the time."

Amen!  And the list goes on!

Honduras is Spelled H-A-W-A-I-I

I'll explain later.  Anyway, more news from Dave the Dentist:  "All is good here, we are working HARD!! Just had a medical team and they saw over 640 patients and there were 32 people that came to Christ while we were working, in three days!!! Cool, huh!?."

Double Amen!  I think that sums it up better than I can:  serving Christ, watching how He works is cool!  Spread the Word hermanos, and keep the faith!!!
