The Nursery stock is all part of the landscape. Run by a mother and daughter, Emily and Elizabeth Peterson. Their specialty is Butterfly gardening. They have another small house in the rear where they teach gardening classes and how to construct arbors and trellises from natural materials. The nursery is very informal with lots of paths around the house. Lots of vines and climbing plants. They have a good selection of perennials, herbs and native plants. Walking through the nursery is rather like being in a private garden. Nice people, knowledgeable about plants, who know the area very well and can suggest other activities and places for a gardener to visit." Bob GOURD GARDEN 4808 E. County Road 30-A (2 miles east of Seaside) Seagrove, FL Comment: "Gourds, art, herbs and flowers from the deep South and around the world. Located in an old Florida cottage and garden 2 miles east of Seaside. They are located on the coastal loop, east of Deston. This was a very different nursery. Very neat and organized. Lots of gourds and things made from gourds. Good plant selection. Small gift shop with a nice pottery selection. Their customer base is from the nearby upscale resort areas and this is reflected in their shop. Their staff is very knowledgeable. I later found out that the owner is from Baton Rouge, La. The young woman who waited on me was from St. Francisville, LA. I spent part of a very pleasant afternoon there." Bob JUST FRUIT & EXOTICS 30 St. Frances St. Crawfordville, FL 32327 (850) 926-5644 Comment: "This place is wonderful. The owner's name is Brandy Cowley Gilbert. She started out over ten years ago growing exotic fruit trees, but now has moved into many other kinds of perennials and.... GINGERS!!!!!. Tremendous selection, good quality, cheap prices and she is very knowledgeable. The place definitely qualifies as "out-of-the-way", but worth the detour if you are driving into Florida. From Tallahassee, take Hwy 319 South til it dead ends at US Hwy 98, go east about a mile to St. Frances St.,turn right (south) and she is about 100 yards down on the right. It is maybe 30 miles from Interstate 10, but you could take the "scenic route"and continue on Hwy 98 to Perry, Fl and on south from there. On second thought, you would probably want to stop on your way BACK and bring a U-Haul trailer. You should definitely call first because she is not always open and does not (from what I could tell) keep regular hours." Dave

Nursery area is run by great people (Barbara and a couple others) -- if she doesn't have something you're looking for, she'll get it for you. Just plain nice, friendly people! I've gotten most of my plants here, as well as the soil for my garden. The nursery area has a small garden related gift shop, as well as some pottery, trellises and arches, and plant hooks. The main gift shop is more pricey with decorative items, candles, silk flowers, etc., not necessarily garden-related. They also have a great selection of stone statuary, birdbaths, gazing balls, critters, and benches." Kathy

I don't usually get too much there, unless I can't find it elsewhere, due to the prices, but still stop in and look around every now and then." Owner-sisters Rose and Liz Buras began this as a strictly wholesale business which supplied the herb plants to most nurseries in New Orleans and Baton Rouge. They now sell retail as well. Plants in 4 inch pots are $1. Not only do they have an enormous variety of herbs, they also have many old-fashioned annuals and perennials. All of their plants are propagated on site, so are well adapted to our climate. No plant is sold at improper planting time unless a caveat is issued with it. Because this does not truly solicit the retail customer, not all plants are labeled, and one sometimes has to hunt up an employee in order to pay for purchases. Both owners are extremely knowledgeable about the culinary uses and purported medicinal uses of the herbs they sell. They are open Monday-Friday, 9-4, and Saturday 9-12."
