Dennis & Kathryn in Papua New Guinea

In January 1997, Dennis Shedd and Kathryn Roy arrived in Papua New Guinea to begin a two year assignment with the Peace Corps. They are now traveling on a round-the-world ticket until about Nov. 30, visiting Thailand, Cambodia, Vietman, Nepal, India, and perhaps Turkey and Morocco. They can be reached via e-mail to dennisshedd@yahoo.com (Dennis Shedd), tho e-mail availability is intermittent.

Photos: I have added the final two photos, listed here as #1 and #2. I will close the web page about May 20.p>hr>

Photo 1 - View of their mountain (dark, highest one) taken from the Highlands Highway near the Lae airport. Magong is 4500' elevation.

Photo 2 - The Erap Valley, after turning off the highway. I believe their mountain is the back one to the right of the river. Along here, the PMV fords a river (brook?), then starts the climb.

Photo 24 - Singsing in nearby village of Tumun, celebrating the confirmation class graduation.

Photo 27 - Their kitchen, with sink, two-burner stove, and shelves that no one else in Magong has.

Photo 28 - Everyone's favorite, 2-yr.old Harry, here with sugar cane and barefooted. Usually he wears shiny blue boots.

Photo 29 - Beautiful Magong, here taken just after they moved in. Their bamboo hideaway is the one with the "veranda" where math lessons go on. The white side is actually boards drying for counters and shelves. The unfinished outhouse is behind their house. The white cross on the left is the Lutheran church.

Photo 30 - Dennis at the Habitat radio from "nearby" I believe about a 45 minute huffing hike, where they check in weekly. If this info is incorrect, sorry about that.

Photo 31 - Encouraging yet another child to play the trombone. A friend donated a trombone while D/K were home in June, so he'll be able to leave one there.
