Many of us have a hard time communicating with our children. We also take for granted because we have offered Home Evenings, attended Church that our children have the full understanding of gospel principles. I have seemed to fail with many gospel principles, thinking that by example the children will follow. Yes, our children do have their free agency and don't always see eye to eye with us. We have found that we have approached our children separately about concerns but when we do it together and do it in a loving way, we are able to get through to them our concerns, not really condemning them, but trying to give them counsel. It seems what one parent can't say, the other can. It may seem some times that it falls on deaf ears, but at least you have presented them with your concerns and they can have a choice to take that counsel or not. But as families we have the responsibility to counsel our children! And what great things come when you can tell them the reasons why you are concerned and let them know you have also crossed those paths. That we are human too. And most important I think we have to let them know we love them!!!! Sometimes love has to be hard too! But our Heavenly Father has given us a great responsibility as parents and our roles are divine! So are our children!
