Frequently Asked Questions Is UP2000 still available? YES. It is now 2004 and we do still get and fill orders for UP2000. Who are Prouse & Berglund? Prouse & Berglund are partners in business in Vero Beach Florida. Fred Prouse has over 35 years of software engineering experience. Prouse has programmed hundreds of thousands of lines of software over his career. Is there any relationship between Prouse & Berglund and Parsons Technology? NONE. There is no relation other than they were Parsons customers in the late 80s and early 90s, purchasing many of Parsons products such as MoneyCounts 6.5, MoneyCounts 7.0 Personal, MoneyCounts 7.0 Business, Financial Planning, Personal Legal Assistant, and ProCalc 3D. Who needs UP2000? If you have MoneyCounts version 6.5, beginning in the year 2000, you will not be able to enter dates properly nor will you be able to print a proper date on a check. MoneyCounts 6.5 was a particularly popular version selling an estimated 40,000 copies. Many customers, like us, purchased MoneyCounts 7 - tried it for a period of time and went back to MoneyCounts 6.5. We have heard this story over and over. Why did you write UP2000? In mid 1997, Prouse came to the realization that Parsons MoneyCounts 6.5 would not operate properly in the year 2000. At the time, Parsons had a Technical Support Forum on the internet, where customers could ask questions of one another and the Parsons Technical Support staff. It was evident from messages from the Parsons Technical Support staff, without reading between the lines, that Parsons would not fix the Y2k problem with any of the versions of MoneyCounts. Parsons has remained steadfast with this position to this day. Faced with the prospect of moving to another accounting package, Prouse researched several other choices. But the deciding factor was not his own. Prouse's elderly mother has been using MoneyCounts 6.5 for nine or ten years. For her to change to another accounting package was a major undertaking to say nothing of the added expense. Mrs. Prouse has an 8088 PC running a DOS shell. For her to change to another accounting package meant buying a new computer, buying a new operating system, learning Windows, learning how to use a mouse, and learning a new accounting package. This did not seem practical or viable. So Prouse undertook the task of repairing MoneyCounts 6.5. This was done without any involvement of Parsons Technology. This was also done without the source code for MoneyCounts. Why don't Prouse & Berglund provide UP2000 for other versions of MC? Quite simply, Prouse & Berglund no longer use any other version of MoneyCounts and therefore had no incentive to repair any other version. Even if the task were undertaken, they do not have the familiarity with the other products. Because of this, any testing of any repair work would be much more difficult and time consuming. Why doesn't Parsons sell your product? Parsons was given that choice in December 1998 and did not opt to purchase or distribute UP2000. Will the upgraded MoneyCounts handle Fiscal years other than Calendar Years? Yes, the upgraded MoneyCounts for 2000 and beyond will handle fiscal years. Will MoneyCounts 6.5 run under Windows? Yes, although MoneyCounts 6.5 was called MoneyCounts for DOS, it will run in a window under Windows 3.1, Windows 95, and Windows 98. Just be cognizant that whenever you are displaying graphical charts on your screen, you must first switch to full screen mode for the graphics to display correctly. Then, after you have gone back to the menu, you can switch back to a window. Both of these switches are accomplished by holding down the "Alt" key and then pressing the "Enter" key.
