Oregon River Safety Program
The Oregon River Safety Program began in August of 1999 in response to multiple drowning and unsafe water conditions in the Sandy River at Glenn Otto Park in Troutdale, Oregon. This community service program is a partnership between the Troutdale Booster Club and American Medical Response to provide river rescue technicians at Glenn Otto Park and High Rocks Park from Memorial Day to Labor Day. All proceeds from this event will be directed to this program.
OVERVIEW OF MULTNOMAH MADNESS
ROAD RUN: A quick 6 K road run from Lewis & Clark State Park to Dabney State Park. Teams will have to drop their watercraft at Dabney State Park prior to the start of the race.
KAYAK/CANOE: Six kilometer paddle in an open kayak or canoe. For those not white water savvy, not to worry, this section of the Sandy River is pretty tame! Double kayaks are permitted. Only two team members per each watercraft permitted. Once the team has completed the paddle, the boats are portaged into Lewis & Clark Park for a MYSTERY CHALLENGE.
TRAIL RUN: Ten kilometer trail run/trek out onto the Sandy River Delta. All team members must be present at each check- point to receive clearance to continue the race.
COASTEERING: Teams will enter the Columbia River and island hop along the course back to the tip of the Sandy River Delta. The teams will then finish with a trail run to the finish line at Lewis & Clark State Park.
