pla-ni-sphere, n. [plane + sphere]: a projection of the celestial sphere onto a planar chart showing the stars visible at a particular time and place.

The planisphere is an ingenious device dating back to ancient Rome. It consists of two wheels. The bottom wheel is a star map, and the top wheel has an oval cutout - the horizon.

As the star wheel turns, different parts of the map become visible through the oval, representing the stars rising above the horizon.

What's that bright thing over the wood shed? Is it a UFO or Venus? Grab your Palm Pilot and find out!

Planisphere is an interactive sky chart for Palm OS-based smartphones and handheld computers. It is modeled on the astronomical device of the same name. It displays the sky as it appears right now - or at any other time and place of your choice. With a clean, uncluttered design, it is ideal for quickly locating stars, constellations and planets in the night sky.

Unlike an ordinary planisphere, our computerized sky chart works at any latitude - you don't have to buy a different one if you venture too far north or south of where you live. In addition, it automatically tracks the changing positions of the Sun, the Moon and the planets among the stars.

Using Planisphere requires no prior knowledge of astronomy. All you need is a little curiosity, good eyesight and a clear night sky. If you're interested in stargazing, Planisphere is a great learning tool to help you get started. Get it now at handango.com

Very easy and straightforward to use ... I would recommend this program to anyone.

A simple but very useful astronomy guide. Well worth the price.

I've tried several of the $10-$20 Astronomy programs for Palm, and this is the best of those for the casual stargazer.

Fantastic value ... I have had it for a couple of weeks and no sign of any problem.

Very nicely designed and extremely easy to use ... I am very happy with it!

Very useful even for the non-astronomer. Simple, elegant interface.

Simple yet comprehensive ... The more I use it, the more I enjoy it.
