RIDERS WITH DISABILITIES FEATURED IN NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC TELEVISION SPECIAL
Fundraiser for Carousel Riding Academy November 14, 1999 – 8 PM – National Public Broadcasting System (check your local PBS listings for broadcast times in your area)
The new National Geographic Television documentary 'HORSES' will have its US Broadcast premiere on Sunday, November 14, at 8 PM on PBS. To celebrate the event, the film's producers will hold an advance screening fundraising party on Saturday, November 13 to raise money for the Carousel School of Riding for People with Disabilities in Warner Robbins, Georgia.
During the making of this film, the producers met the remarkable Carol Wooley and filmed at the Carousel Riding School which she has worked so hard to establish. Her school exists on donations only and its survival is always tenuous. Having seen first hand the dedication of riders with disabilities not only at Carol's school but also at the inspirational riding events you produce for ACORD, we are even more determined to help Carol keep the Carousel school on a firm financial footing. We have booked a room at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center, an exclusive equestrian facility and one of the largest equestrian centers in the USA with hundreds of people boarding their horses there.
'HORSES' takes viewers back to the roots of the ancient bond between humans and horses. Filmed on the steppes of Mongolia, at the Royal Riding School in Andalusia, Spain and across North America, this one-hour documentary sheds light on the tremendous influence the horse has exerted on the course of civilization, and examines our on-going love affair with this magnificent creature.
This
National Geographic special includes footage from the 1998 ACORD Horse
Show for Riders with Disabilities in Alpharetta, Georgia. The event showcased
the remarkable little horse Carousel in a moving retirement ceremony (see
article on this Website).
As a result of their film experiences, both of the show’s producers have become involved with competition for riders with disabilities, loaning horses and serving as volunteers at numerous ACORD events.
Don’t miss ‘HORSES’ on November 14 at 8 PM on PBS! (check your local
listings for broadcast times in your area)
